The faculty and academic cohorts will also provide me with valuable real-world concepts and experiences in the strategic management of mass communications problems, improve my ability to conduct social science research, as well as my ability to effectively communicate the results of my research. These are all increasingly important skills in today's globalized marketplace, and the need for them continues to grow in virtually every industry today. As noted above, my education and professional experience to date has provided me with a particularly well-suited background for this program of instruction. For example, as you will note from the enclosed resume, I secured my bachelor of arts degree in Foreign Trading from Beijing University in 1997, and my master's degree in mass communication from Laurentian University in 2004.

My employment has included positions that required extensive cross-cultural communications, including workshops, seminars and other presentations to co-workers and senior managers. In addition, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of hypertext transfer protocol language and programming tools and have used this knowledge to good advantage in developing effective and easy-to-read and understand Web sites for my various employers. These experiences have served to fuel my interest in how to use this evolving medium more effectively for cross-cultural communication applications in the future. As a concomitant to this growing interest, I have found there is a growing need for balancing the commercial opportunities involved in mass communications through global outlets with the ethical considerations that such a medium entails. In many ways, the rules are still being written and precedent is being established; clearly, this is an exciting time to be a part of mass communications, and this is what makes the career path so attractive to me.

On a final and personal note, the skills, expertise and communications techniques learned in the PhD course of study at your university will be readily transferable to a wide range of professional settings, enabling me to pursue my future research in those areas that emerge as the most interesting personally, and rewarding professionally, to help further my lifelong ambition to learn as much about the world and others as possible. The increasing importance of mass communications research has been made abundantly evident since the turn of the 21st century, and future events of a global nature will undoubtedly continue to reinforce this trend. Therefore, securing a graduate degree in this field of study will be a timely and appropriate extension of my education and will provide me with the springboard I require for future professional success.
